At Fruto, we are passionate about designing digital experiences that truly make a difference. As a leading UI UX design agency in the UK, our mission is to help organisations deliver engaging, intuitive and effective platforms that meet the needs of their users while supporting long-term business goals.

Our work spans across sectors, from education and healthcare to global publishing and we pride ourselves on being a collaborative partner who can step in at pivotal stages of a product’s development journey.

UX design for education: partnering with this is school

This is School is an ambitious EdTech company providing digital learning resources to schools and school districts across the globe. While they had already gained recognition for their engaging modern language courses, they were expanding into more complex curriculum areas such as science and geography. With high expectations from teachers and learners alike, they needed to ensure that their digital learning platform could present intricate content clearly and accessibly.

The challenge

As they prepared to pilot their new science curriculum with a major US school district the stakes were high. The challenge lay in creating a platform that not only showcased rich, engaging educational content but also provided teachers with a tool that saved time in planning and supported live classroom teaching. They needed a polished, strategic user experience that could scale confidently across multiple subjects.

Our approach

We partnered closely with This is School, embedding ourselves as part of their product and development teams. Our role was to introduce strategic UX design expertise at a crucial stage in their roadmap. The goal was to design for how teachers and students really use the platform in the classroom; focusing on usability, planning, pacing and engagement.

Key areas of improvement included:

  • Courses page -  We redesigned navigation and content clarity, enabling teachers to quickly locate school-specific materials and better understand the features available.

  • Visual & functional design -  We refined the platform’s visual hierarchy and layouts to minimise distractions, improve accessibility and enhance classroom usability; particularly on devices frequently used by teachers.

  • Lesson content experience -  Lessons were restructured to guide teachers and students more intuitively through rich media and sequenced content. A new dual-mode teaching interface allowed teachers to manage pacing and focus during lessons, further supporting real-time teaching.

  • Exercise workflows -  Assigning and managing exercises became more intuitive and seamlessly integrated into the content journey.

  • Strategic consulting & handover -  We provided long-term structural recommendations and design patterns that ensured future scalability.

Results

The redesigned Lesson page and Courses section transformed the platform, making it more flexible, engaging and aligned with classroom realities. Teachers benefited from faster planning, smoother lesson delivery and clearer content navigation, while students enjoyed more structured, engaging learning experiences. Beyond winning a crucial sales opportunity, our work gave This is School a scalable design foundation that will serve future curriculum expansions across multiple subjects.

UI design & pattern library for healthcare: Healthinote

Cognitant, the company behind Healthinote, empowers people to better understand their health conditions and treatments through innovative, interactive content. Healthinote is already a trusted resource across the UK, connecting thousands of healthcare practices with over 30 million people.

The challenge

Cognitant had launched an early-stage version of the Healthinote app but needed a design overhaul to improve usability, address patient anxieties and make the platform more welcoming. They also required a UI pattern library that would ensure consistent, reusable design across both their native iOS app and a new Progressive Web Application (PWA).

Our approach

Working as an extension of Cognitant’s internal team, we refreshed the brand identity, created wireframes, delivered high-fidelity UI mockups and developed a comprehensive pattern library all within six months.

Highlights of our work included:

  • Brand evolution -  We introduced a new healthcare-inspired colour scheme, refreshed the logo and ensured the brand aligned with NHS accessibility standards.

  • High-fidelity mockups -  We demonstrated how new visual designs would look across modules and workflows, ensuring content was both engaging and reassuring.

  • 3D character development -  To create a more approachable experience, we introduced a friendly, human character to guide users through the app.

  • User onboarding & in-app workflows -  We improved navigation, reduced dead ends and developed onboarding screens tailored to different user entry points.

  • Comprehensive pattern library -  This enabled Cognitant’s developers to maintain consistency across platforms and supported scalability for future growth.

Results

The transformation was dramatic. Clinician usage grew from a few hundred doctors to over 14,000 across 1,700 practices in the UK. Patients reported that the app felt easier to use, less clinical and more reassuring. The improvements not only enhanced the app’s success but also aligned the brand across web, app and marketing channels.

Icon design for global publishing: Taylor & Francis

Taylor & Francis, one of the world’s largest scholarly publishers, partnered with us as part of the Get Full Text Research (GetFTR) initiative. This collaboration aimed to simplify access to research articles by making access rights more visible directly in search results.

The challenge

Users searching for academic papers often face the frustration of hitting paywalls after several clicks. To improve transparency, Taylor & Francis needed clear, recognisable icons that indicated access levels at a glance, while maintaining consistency across platforms and publishers.

Our approach

We designed four unique icons that could work independently or within buttons, accompanied by detailed usage guidelines for seamless integration. These assets balanced clarity with brand alignment, helping researchers instantly understand their access rights.

Results

The pilot launched successfully across six research platforms and five major publishers, making it significantly easier for researchers to identify accessible content. Our work directly contributed to a smoother research experience for academics worldwide.

At Fruto, we believe that design is not just about aesthetics; it is about making digital products clearer, more usable and more impactful. Whether in education, healthcare or global publishing, we deliver user experiences that matter.
